The Taiwanese Junior Chamber of Commerce of San Francisco Bay Area recently hosted the “Yi Yi Bu She Music & Second-hand Market,” which attracted many overseas Taiwanese and local residents. The venue was bustling with visitors. According to the Chamber, this was more than just a simple market — it was a cross-generational and cross-cultural community gathering.

The event combined live music performances, a feast of delicious food, and a secondhand item exchange. Participants of all ages reconnected through “the stories behind objects” and “the sharing of memories.” Chamber President Robin Tan said he hopes events like this can provide a warm and meaningful space where everyone in the community can feel a sense of belonging and visibility.

Angela Chuang, Director of the Culture Center of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in San Francisco, noted that the event promoted not only the values of sustainability and reuse, but also embodied the spirit of net-zero carbon reduction and circular economy. Through reusing and sharing items, the community was encouraged to actively participate in sustainable living.

The market also brought together several Taiwanese brands and foods, including Ocha’s grass jelly desserts, Mochiholic’s Japanese-style donuts, and Ain’t Common’s Taiwanese bento boxes. These offerings allowed overseas Taiwanese to savor the flavors of home while giving local residents a taste of Taiwan’s cultural charm. Through this exchange of food, people from different cultural backgrounds found common ground and emotional connections.
